Yes Gary, I was relating the social benefit model of P-CED today on the Charter for Compassion where I'd also described the return on investment which influenced the increased domestic adoption of orphans in Ukraine. I posted the story here as a bl…

The homeless humanitarian and a turning point in adoption

This week, we learned from Ukraine that for the first time, adoption of orphans by Ukrainians had exceeded those made by foreign visitors

3 years ago, social business pioneer Terry Hallman started to examine the root causes of poverty in Ukraine. He realised that foster parents were paid only half what the state paid institutions where children, particular those disabled, were often neglected.

Terry is the American founder of a social enterprise based in the Forest of Dean who'd once been home… Continue

Where 95% of business start ups survive

In Russia, believe it or not.

A proof of concept initiative where 95% of microfinance assisted business survived for more than a year. Named the Tomsk regional initiative, sourced and prescribed by Terry Hallman of P-CED to be managed by USAID with Finca as partners.

Between 2000 and 2004 it leveraged $6 million investment to create 10,000 businesses in a city of 600,000 with 97% loan repayment. It left behind a thriving microfinance bank.

Citi Clinical Labs
Don Bliss Foudation
and Fondamu

I wish you well on your journey.

I have found a government petition that hasn't had much promotion and it needs to get 200 signatures by 21/08/09 to be put forward to government officials, at the moment it has 121.
Please could you sign this petition to help end live animal skinning in China, it would be a shame for it not to reach its target.
The link is http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ChineseCruelty/
Thank you very much!!

Hi again Jeff.
I just looked at your FreeIndex profile and noticed that you haven't added any pictures to your photobook. This is of course free too and will help to illustrate your business to potential customers. We also like to feature businesses on our homepage who have utilised all the FreeIndex features so it could help you get a little better exposure.

Yes it can invest time, Karen, as social capital as well as social capitalism.

So the "more than" in more than 50% of profit could include time allocated to social knowledge sharing.

For example, time that I might have spare which can be allocated to helping someone set up a website for a voluntary cause.

I visited Skoll Social Edge to view that discussion for new models for social angel investments. It was interesting to say the least that the whole issues seem to surround the investment of money.
I was just left wondering that it could be possible that "angels" could invest their time instead of their cash. If they are cash rich then they must have lots and lots of time on their hands and wouldn't it be great if they invested that time into any one particular business which need their help?

Returning to Pledging for Change, which one day it is hoped there are plenty profits to re-invest into the company so that we can step up the marketing & promotions platforms for all the members,It wouldn't be adverse to say that if any one particular member needed help I could find the TIME to pull out all the stops and focus on promoting and marketing that members business. Now I'm no angel whatsoever but I always remember certain phrases like this for example "a friend in need is a friend indeed".

When you hold out a helping hand there is nothing to compare with the uplifting feeling... it all comes back, round and round in a circle..."give and you shall recieve"

Time is like the penny...spend it, spend it, you will have so many, keep it, keep it and you won't have any.

Enough of my little ditties for the day. I'm sure you all have plenty of your own.

Hi Jeff
phew yes its been a slog with Pay Pal honestly. Community Interest Companies are a very new concept and half way between a charity and a normal business. Banks and some organisations have trouble because they don't yet understand the concept.
In essence although a CIC is treated as a normal business with respects to taxes and has to be a limited company etc there are no profits for directors in dividends and a statement has to be made at year end how the profits were re-invested into the company and benefitted the community. In our case our community is working with our ethical companies and inspiring change..

Anyway I'm sure things will resolve quickly and paypal will be enlightened

I like blogs as you do not need much training in thiose HTML software...

Again thank you Jeff...

There is no place here to command your help, but I will do so on ecademy. Meanwhile let's connect here...we need change and I need to fundraise for my charity to be able to make change in my neighbourhood...

Hi Jeff

Welcome to the network on behalf of all the members. And what a great outlook to business you have.
Once again we see a business with a fantastic social conscience.
( I have just stumbled your site btw)

Jeff if you do ever get the chance to contribute in the main forums I'll add a thread about double or triple bottom lines. These things can be a bit confusing for some I know, but when it's put into simple terms I think it just might pave the way for new start up or even existing business to consider.

Keep up the good work

Karen
