Pledging for Change

We all get used to seeing the "think before you print" tag at the end of emails but sometimes things really do need to be printed!

There's no need to take a guilt trip, because there are lots of ways to lessen the environmental impact (and financial cost!) of churning out those precious paper pages... here's my advice:

1. Think first! And if you must print....
2. Printing both sides saves twice as much paper (duplex)
3. Double up (more than 1 page per sheet/side)
4. Use "draft" or "fast" mode - this uses a lot less ink
5. Print preview - see what it will look like, you may not need to print all the pages
6. Use post-consumer recycled, chlorine free paper
7. Re-use paper such as letters, and print on the back for non-important documents
8. Use re-manufactured / recycled toners
9. Recycle your empties
10. Turn the printer off when you don't need it

No your'e quite welcome. It's all for the greater good of the Planet!

Do you know what really annoys me? When you watch Granada Reports or the other one on BBC... and they ask people to send in emails in repsonse to a question. Then they have one line emails on individual pieces of paper that they read back out to us? Why can't they print them all on one sheet? What kind of message are they sending out? It's certainly not telling people to save paper is it?

It's a perfect opportunity to mention to the viewers that they put all the emails on one sheet of paper ..both sides as they care about the planet. hmmm

heheh where will we stop....

The public sector should be leading the way with all this, but they really aren't setting a good example. It could be so different so easily, but the powers that be and the money men aren't interested.... but it's changing...

re number 6 ... use print preview

This is an excellent idea particularly for those free ebooks and Pdfs which have coloured headers and usually a whole page just for the contents. The print preview can get rid of all of those things so you can just get the facts or important parts that you are interested in.

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can. -- John Wesley, "Letters of John Wesley"

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centres of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. -- Robert F. Kennedy
