What the Pope has to say about business
From the Encyclical of Pope Benedict published 2 weeks ago:
'This is not merely a matter of a “third sector”, but of a broad new composite reality embracing the private and public spheres, one which does not exclude profit, but instead considers it a means for achieving human and social ends. Whether such companies distribute dividends or not, whether their juridical structure corresponds to one or other of the established forms, becomes secondary in relation to their willingness to view profit as a means of achieving the goal of a more humane market and society'

Then I cannot agree with the Pope more Jeff.
There are no more excuses any more. Every single business should be giving back in one way or another. All products ans services should be (or working towards) a sustainable future NOW! We can't keep taking from the planet without giving back. We can't keep running our lives and business without giving a helping hand to those in need. If that means giving some year end profit away then that is a very good start.
And we all need to understand that sustainabilty has to run right through the very core of everything It's wrong to camouflage an unsustainable business with a year end donation just to make people think you are a good company. We all know of this GREENWASH as it is called. The truth will find them out....and then they will no longer exist.
So now....start giving back! Go over your policies and see if you can make them better aligned with the Spirit of Harmony with OUR PLANET......check out your products, your business colleagues and suppliers who you use and promote... and you will know exactly what to do!
