a life of tin foil
Tin foil is not actually made of it is made of alluminium and it's use is preferable to cling film of any sorts.
However if you have to use alluminium foil its great scrunched up for pan cleaners. It can then go into the alluminium recycling as with all alluminim products.
Ps I took a full sack full to the recycling centre the other week for a friend of mine who has a caravan site and a collection point for alluminium cans and foil etc and guess what? Lucky me got £1.50 for my efforts!

Scrunch your tin foil up and use it to clean pans with burnt food on the bottom. (for those of us who have cheap pans hmm). Works brilliantly too!

You can actually buy recycled tin foil here in the UK and US but for food wrapping it mustn't be used for things like tomatoes,rhubarb and many softs fruits which are high acid as the alluminium leaches in and makes it taste tainted or bad. I should also imagine that if it can leach into foods then we would be eating it. YUK!
However so far it seems the best alternative to cling film which is a non-reusable product going straight into landfill.

I was recently trying to wrap everything in greaseproof paper until I recently read that it is coated with chemicals like teflon and chrome containing quilon. It is therefore non-recyclable which in itself was an almost impossible task as you could not remove any food residues. Even waxed paper which again I thought might be environmentally friendly , is coated with a formaldehyde-based resin. Formaldehyde is very toxic in the environment. So do not be tempted to put greaseprof or waxed paper into your compost bin.
So what does anyone else use for storage of food in the fridge/freezer?
I have a selection of Plastic tubs with lds bought many years ago.....yes PLASTIC urgh. Need to check out what's happening there then eh?
